Georgia State University’s commitment to immersive learning experiences continues to thrive with the 2024 Panthers in the District program. This collaborative initiative, jointly offered by the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies (AYSPS) and the Robinson College of Business, aims to connect students with opportunities and enhance their competitiveness for internships and full-time positions in Washington, D.C.
This year, 16 Georgia State students are participating in the program, designed as a six-month series of training sessions and briefings to prepare them to make strong impressions during immersive business meetings and networking events. These activities facilitate valuable connections between students, Georgia State alumni, and professionals in the government and business sectors.
AYSPS faculty and staff, alongside their Robinson counterparts, support students throughout the program. Dr. Peter Bluestone, associate director of domestic programs at the AYSPS Public Finance Research Cluster (PFRC), is among the faculty members guiding this initiative.
PFRC pubic finance fellow Aidan Rickaby is also involved in this year’s program. Reflecting on his experience, Rickaby states, “The trip exceeded my expectations. It introduced me to new career paths and provided the chance to meet professionals across various fields. Connecting with Andrew Brown, a Georgia State alum at the U.S. Department of Commerce, was particularly valuable. Hearing Nikki Clifton from the UPS Foundation inspire us to lead in our fields was a highlight. I’m thankful for the experiences and insights that will guide my future career.”
As students complete the program, they continue to gain practical knowledge and expand their professional networks. For many participants, Panthers in the District strongly informs their future career choices in public finance and related fields, setting the stage for their continued growth and success as AYSPS alumni.
